I said that I would certainly respect
his confidence if he did mine, but I should have to
give them both a very general idea of how things
were going. I trust, therefore, that nothing will
be said at Tokyo or Washington which would be incom-
patible with this assurance.
I then left, he promising to let me have his
formula, if possible by Friday night, when we might
consider renewing the conversation.
